Seward had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Nikiski Bulldogs 54-12. Winning may never get old, but the Seahawks sure are getting used to it with their ninth in a row dating back to last season.
Lane Petersen was nothing short of spectacular: he picked up 126 receiving yards and two TDs. Those two receiving touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Ridge Conant made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Seward's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Conant got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Seward has already played their next contest, a 42-6 win against Monroe Catholic on the 23rd. As for Nikiski, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Valdez at 12:00 p.m. on September 6.
