Softball Recap: Los Lunas Takes Down Ranked Atrisco Heritage Academy

Los Lunas faced Atrisco Heritage Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 7-1 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.

Brooke Baca spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jaslene Duran was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Haidyn Garley, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Los Lunas is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 16-6.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Los Lunas will challenge rival Rio Grande at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Atrisco Heritage Academy is set to take on their familiar foe West Mesa at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
