Gillespie has gone a perfect 10-0 against Litchfield recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Miners will challenge the Purple Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Gillespie will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
While Gillespie's win against Sacred Heart-Griffin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Miners had just enough and edged out the Cyclones 2-1.
Sadie Sholtis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
Litchfield not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21st (when they won 10-0). Everything went their way against Vandalia as they made off with a 10-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Purple Panthers in their matchups with the Vandals: they've now won four in a row.
Chloe Green was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Alexis Mielke, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Litchfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vandalia only managed six hits.
Gillespie pushed their record up to 18-6 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Litchfield, their record is now 9-12.
Litchfield's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Gillespie hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. It's a different story for Litchfield, though, as they've only averaged .249. Will they be able to contain Gillespie's hitters?
Gillespie took their victory against Litchfield in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Miners since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
