Baseball Recap: Overton Comes Up Short

Overton had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 7-7 to make it four. They lost 20-0 to the Memphis Central Warriors. Having soared to a lofty 27 runs in the game before, the Wolverines' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Memphis Central, their record is now 9-6. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Memphis Central's part, Isaiah Reynolds made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Reynolds was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Memphis Central is undefeated when Reynolds posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jonathan Rudd, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Memphis Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-2 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Jamerion Smith also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Coming up, Overton will challenge Melrose at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.25 runs per game on average), something the Wolverines will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Memphis Central, they are taking a road trip to challenge Southwind at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
