University is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Morgantown is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Hawks will welcome the Mohigans at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
University is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Preston a 15-0 shutout on Wednesday. Considering the Hawks have won four games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sophia Lehosit was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, University got a big performance out of Lexi Elza, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Olivia Masoner was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI.
University was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .577. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Morgantown got the win against The Linsly School on Wednesday by a conclusive 12-4. With that win, the Mohigans brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Like University, Morgantown also got a great game from a two-way player: LIZ ALSOP. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. ALSOP was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on ANNE ROBINSON, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was KIRA SMITH, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Morgantown has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for University, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.
Morgantown's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: University has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .474. It's a different story for Morgantown, though, as they've only averaged .358. Will they be able to contain University's hitters?
University was able to grind out a solid victory over Morgantown in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 5-1. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Mohigans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
