Baseball Area Code Games underway in Long Beach

The Area Code Games get underway today in Long Beach, Calif., at Blair Field with approximately 240 players representing eight regions of the country showing off their skills to Major League Baseball scouts in the week-long tournament.

The schedule, according to Student Sports, begins at 12:30 p.m. today with the Reds facing the White Sox. The Royals face the Athletics at 3:30 and the Rangers play the Brewers at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday's schedule finds the Yankees playing the Nationals at 12:30 p.m., the Athletics meeting the Rangers at 3:30 p.m. and the Reds taking on the Royals at 6:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Nationals and White Sox meet at 8 a.m. while the Brewers and Yankees meet at 11 a.m. and the Rangers and Reds play at 2 p.m.



Four games are scheduled for Thursday with the Yankees playing the White Sox at 8 a.m., the Nationals playing the Royals at 11 a.m., the Brewers meeting the Athletics at 2 p.m. and the Nationals facing the Reds at 5 p.m.

The Brewers meet the Royals in the first game on Friday, followed by the Nationals and Rangers at 11 a.m., the Yankees and Reds at 2 p.m. and the Athletics and White Sox at 5 p.m.

The final three games on Saturday find the Athletics playing the Yankees at 8 a.m., the Royals facing the Rangers at 11 a.m. and the Brewers playing the White Sox at 2 p.m.

The eight teams represent eight regions of the United States. The White Sox are comprised of players from the Midwest, the Reds are from the Four Corners and Hawaii, the Royals are from the Pacific Northwest, the Brewers are from Southern California, the Yankees are from the Northeast, the Athletics are from Northern California, the Rangers are from Texas and Louisiana and the Nationals are from the Southeast and Virginia.
