Baseball Recap: Chavez Comes Up Short

Chavez has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.93 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They came up short against the Van Nuys Wolves, falling 12-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Eagles have suffered since May 1, 2024.

Xavier Salas and Brandon Zazueta did some serious damage despite the final result: Salas scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Zazueta scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Zazueta has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

This is the second loss in a row for Chavez and nudges their season record down to 8-6. As for Van Nuys, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-2.

Looking ahead, Chavez will be playing at home against Grant at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.9, the Lancers 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Van Nuys, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-5 victory against Fairfax on the 5th.
