A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Straughn Tigers duke it out with the Opp Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday... Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Straughn is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 56 points on Friday, they were much more limited against Bullock County on Monday. 2025 welcomed they with a 52-26 loss courtesy of the Hornets. The contest marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Clark Gay was Straughn's leading scorer, having posted five points. Noah Fowler held things down on the boards with six rebounds. Clark Jordan took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Meanwhile, Opp was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a hard 51-32 fall against Bullock County.
Straughn will need focus on slowing down Alan Jones, one of several Opp players who made an impact when they last played. He posted eight points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeshurun Crittenden, who had six points and eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Opp smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.
Opp now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Straughn, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Straughn has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 34.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Opp struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Straughn was able to grind out a solid win over Opp in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 57-47. Does Straughn have another victory up their sleeve, or will Opp turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
