MT. VERNON, Texas -
Mt. Vernon (Texas) extended its winning streak to seven games with a 42-7 victory over Queen City (Texas) on Saturday.
The Tigers were up 21-7 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown catch by
Daniel Brown in the second quarter.
Mt. Vernon expanded its lead to 35 points entering the fourth quarter. MV scored three times in the third, including once on a
Kris Ables touchdown run.
The Tigers' most effective player was Ables. The junior wide receiver ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored 12 touchdowns on the season.
The Bulldogs' lone touchdown came on a kick return in the first quarter.
Mt. Vernon had given up an average of 7.7 points prior to the contest.
The defeat comes as a step back for Queen City, which notched a 49-36 victory over Prairiland in its previous outing.
In a 2A-1 Region II District 8 game next week Mt. Vernon (7-0) takes on Daingerfield, and Queen City (4-4) will go up against Daingerfield also in a 2A-1 Region II District 8 game.
