Basketball Recap: Bolivar Central Falls Despite Big Games from Kealan Polk and Jermicheal Neely

Bolivar Central had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 3-2 to make it six. They took a 74-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jackson Christian Eagles. If the Tigers were looking for revenge after losing 52-49 to the Eagles when the teams met back in December of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Bolivar Central had strong showings from Jermicheal Neely, who went 6-for-8 to rack up 20 points, and Kealan Polk, who shot 46% from the field en route to 18 points. Polk is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season. Jakobi Spencer-Turner also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

As for Jackson Christian, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 62.8 points this season.

Jackson Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Co Vargason, who went 10-for-16 on his way to 33 points and five assists. Thanks to that strong game, Vargason now owns an excellent 42.9% three-point shooting accuracy. Kelsey Rose Jr. was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Bolivar Central didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 81-53 win against Haywood on the 5th. As for Jackson Christian, they have also already played their next contest, a 72-27 victory against Carroll Academy on the 4th.
