The Westlake Thunder will face off against the Ridgeline Riverhawks at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Westlake is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Uintah, who was ranked 20th at the time (Westlake was ranked tenth). The Thunder had just enough and edged out the Utes 3-2 on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Thunder, who have now won five matches in a row.
Brilynn Attebery spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Westlake's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lexi Hilton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Audrey Sherman was another, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Ridgeline came into Saturday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Bountiful 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Riverhawks have posted since April 12th.
The team relied heavily on Ava Buttars, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Westlake pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Ridgeline, they now have a winning record of 14-13.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Westlake hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Ridgeline struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 home runs.
