Softball Recap: Dos Pueblos Sets Scoring Season-High Against Santa Barbara

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dos Pueblos). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Santa Barbara Dons an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that win, the Chargers brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Juliana Brunner made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Dos Pueblos let Anastasia Brunner and Brooklyn Hedricks run wild. Brunner went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Hedricks went 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Hedricks a new career-high. Esme Mazurkiewicz was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Dos Pueblos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .725. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory (which was Dos Pueblos' fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Santa Barbara, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-11.

Dos Pueblos will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Dons: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
