Basketball Game Preview: Putnam County War Eagles vs. Elbert County Blue Devils

The Putnam County War Eagles will take on the Elbert County Blue Devils on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Putnam County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Heard County 55-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the War Eagles have posted since December 20, 2025.

Vidalia typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Elbert County proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 61-38 victory. 61 seems to be a good number for the Blue Devils as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

Elbert County is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points over those games. As for Putnam County, their win bumped their record up to 21-2.

Putnam County didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Elbert County when the teams last played back in January of 2020, but they still walked away with a 57-53 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the War Eagles since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
