Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Pierz

Pierz hadn't done well against Pequot Lakes recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Pierz Pioneers skirted past the Pequot Lakes Patriots 65-63. The win was all the more spectacular given the Pioneers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Patriots are ranked 53rd).

Pierz is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points over those games. As for Pequot Lakes, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-5.

Looking ahead, Pierz will head out on the road to face off against Albany at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pequot Lakes, they will be playing at home against Foley at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Foley has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 192 points over their last three games.
