Volleyball Recap: Westfield Takes Down Ranked Mt. Vernon

Westfield faced Mt. Vernon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Shamrocks were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Marauders. This was payback for the Shamrocks, who suffered a 3-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Westfield never let Mt. Vernon on the board, but things got pretty close in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-25, 25-15, 25-21.

Leading Westfield to victory were Kendyl Strack and Emily Blevins. Strack had 13 digs and five aces, while Blevins had 25 assists and ten digs. Blevins is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 14 or more in each of the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kenna Robinson, who had 11 assists and six digs.

Several Marauders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aubry Dowling, who had 11 digs and two assists.

Westfield's victory bumped their record up to 16-1. As for Mt. Vernon, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-5.

When Westfield and Mt. Vernon next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Shamrocks will take on Brownsburg and their eight-game winning streak at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon will try to stop Triton Central's three-game winning streak when they meet at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
