Basketball Recap: Symerria Harris' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Statesville over Foard

Statesville fought the good fight in their overtime match against Foard on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 53-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Foard Tigers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Greyhounds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-46 back in January.

Statesville lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Symerria Harris, who made all 5 shots she took to post 10 points and eight boards. Harris is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Saniah Davidson, who posted eight points.

Foard found their leader in sophomore Jessica Bailey, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinzer Abernathy, who scored 11 points.

Statesville has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Foard, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.

Statesville will be playing at home against West Iredell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Statesville is facing West Iredell at the right time seeing as West Iredell is stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Foard, they will face off against East Lincoln at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Foard is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season.
