Basketball Recap: New Kent Comes Up Short

After flying high against Mechanicsville last Monday, New Kent came back down to earth. The New Kent Trojans were just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 65-64 to the Smithfield Packers. The Trojans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Packers earlier this season, when they won 85-79.

When it comes to explaining why New Kent lost, don't look at Will Ross. Despite the final result, he posted 20 points and eight assists. Ross has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 12 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kyle Diggs, who went 7-for-9 to rack up 16 points.

Having lost for the first time this season, New Kent fell to 21-1. As for Smithfield, their win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-3.

New Kent didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 75-51 victory against Warhill on the 14th. As for Smithfield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 47-38 win against Jamestown on the 14th.
