Baseball Recap: St. Joseph Has No Trouble Against Portage Central

St. Joseph barely beat Portage Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bears were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Mustangs on Thursday. The Bears not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23rd (when they won 14-2).

St. Joseph got a massive performance out of Nathan Schmitt, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. The Bears are undefeated when Schmitt posts two or more runs, but 6-11-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Blayke Sicurello, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: St. Joseph kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

St. Joseph's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-11-1. As for Portage Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 15 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.

St. Joseph will have a chance to go back-to-back against Portage Central: the pair will be back at it again later today.
