Baseball Recap: Shadow Mountain Comes Up Short

Shadow Mountain lost against Odyssey Institute back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Shadow Mountain Matadors took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Odyssey Institute Minotaur.

Alex Forkum spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

At the plate, Jack Zauner made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as he's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Andy Chaplick, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Shadow Mountain now has a losing record of 1-2-1. As for Odyssey Institute, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2-1.

Coming up, Shadow Mountain will challenge Cortez at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Odyssey Institute, they will head out on the road to challenge Highland Prep at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Highland Prep's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
