Recap: Geibel Catholic Gators vs. Monessen Greyhounds
This season hasn't been kind to the Geibel Catholic Gators, who are still winless after their 17th game. They were outmatched by Monessen on the road and fell 74-41. While losing is never fun, Geibel Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 750th, while Monessen is ranked 341st).
When it comes to explaining why Geibel Catholic lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Gary Tarbuk. Despite the final result, he scored 25 points along with two steals and two blocks. Tarbuk hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Tommy Kolencik, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Geibel Catholic struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-7) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Geibel Catholic dropped their record down to 0-17 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Monessen, their victory bumped their record up to 13-2.
Geibel Catholic will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against West Greene at 7:30 p.m. West Greene is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games. As for Monessen, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Yough at 4:30 p.m. on January 27th. Yough has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 310 points over their last five matches.
