Softball Game Preview: Chula Vista Learning Community Charter Cobras vs. Liberty Charter Lions

Chula Vista Learning Community Charter is 0-10 against Liberty Charter since March of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Cobras will venture away from home to challenge the Lions at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

If Chula Vista Learning Community Charter beats Liberty Charter with 11 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Cobras came out on top against Ocean View Christian by a score of 11-6 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Cobras in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, Liberty Charter had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Cavaliers with a sharp 28-6 victory. The Lions' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Layla Montgomery made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Samantha McHenry was incredible, going 2-for-4 with five runs and five RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Angie Carreon, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Liberty Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .646. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

The win got Liberty Charter back to even at 7-7. As for Chula Vista Learning Community Charter, their record is now 8-10.

Chula Vista Learning Community Charter suffered a grim 17-0 defeat to Liberty Charter when the teams last played back in April. Can the Cobras avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
