Baseball Recap: Wheeler Has No Trouble Against Westville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wheeler). They put the hurt on the Westville Blackhawks with a sharp 8-1 win on Saturday. The Bearcats haven't had any issues with the Blackhawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Caleb McLaughlin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. That hit marked the first that he got this season.

In other batting news, Wheeler let Nick Bravo and Nick Micciche run wild. Bravo scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4, while Micciche scored two runs and stole three bases. Those three stolen bases gave Bravo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Keegan Kuehl, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

The win got Wheeler back to even at 2-2. As for Westville, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Looking ahead, Wheeler will head out on the road to face off against Illiana Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The contest will give the Bearcats their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Westville, they will face off against Culver Academies at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
