Baseball Game Preview: Foxfire Phoenix vs. Briggs Bruins

The Foxfire Phoenix will challenge the Briggs Bruins at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Foxfire took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Cristo Rey 5-4.

Meanwhile, Briggs waltzed into their matchup on Monday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Scots. Considering the Bruins have won 11 games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Wyatt Martin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cameron Griffith, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was his first of the season.

Briggs pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Foxfire, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
