Elkin and Surry Central are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. Elkin will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Surry Central at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Elkin turned things around against Alleghany on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 14-10. With that win, the Buckin' Elks brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Zoey Cincotti made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only two hits. Cincotti was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Aiden Byrd was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs. Those doubles marked the first that she hit this season. Mackenzie White was another key player, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Elkin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .514. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Surry Central). They blew past Wilkes Central 20-9 on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Cameron Cruise, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ragan Hall, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
The win got Surry Central back to even at 4-4. As for Elkin, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Elkin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. However, it's not like Surry Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Elkin's way against Surry Central when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Elkin made off with a 9-0 win. Does Elkin have another victory up their sleeve, or will Surry Central turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
