Football Game Preview: Spring Lake Lakers vs. West Catholic Falcons

Spring Lake is 1-8 against West Catholic since September of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lakers will look to defend their home field against the Falcons at 7:00 p.m.

Spring Lake blew Christian out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Christian got their revenge. The Lakers fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 24-21. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Lakers have suffered since September 20, 2024.

Landon O'Donnell put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 49 yards and one TD, and also threw for 34 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, West Catholic had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 34-21 win over the Hawkeyes. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Hawkeyes are ranked 183rd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Spring Lake better keep an eye on Grady Augustyn. He was instrumental in West Catholic's win, throwing for 418 yards and three TDs while picking up 15.5 yards per attempt.

West Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Connor Olszewski.

West Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Spring Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
