Baseball Recap: Niles West Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Niles West and New Trier squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Niles West had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Trevians by a score of 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Christian Guzman was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Niles West is 2-1 when Guzman posts three or more hits, but 15-18 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Som, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Niles West has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-19 record this season. As for New Trier, they pushed their record up to 28-7-1 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home.
