Recap: Southside Panthers vs. Orange Beach Makos
The Southside Panthers entered their tilt with the Orange Beach Makos with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Southside came out on top against Orange Beach by a score of 45-35 on Thursday. Given Southside's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Orange Beach is ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Southside had a senior duo take command as Grace Anne rose scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and Madison Shaw scored 13 points. The match was Shaw's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Laylah Davis was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Southside's victory bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Orange Beach, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-10.
Southside and Hueytown will round out the year against one another at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at. Hueytown has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 191 points over their last three contests. Orange Beach will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Briarwood Christian at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
