Recap: Beaufort Academy Eagles vs. Cross Stingrays
The Beaufort Academy Eagles lost against the Cross Stingrays back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Beaufort Academy was dealt a 71-43 defeat at the hands of Cross. While losing is never fun, Beaufort Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while Cross is ranked 93rd).
Cross' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sydney Hollings, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Hollings pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ryan Mayers, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Beaufort Academy's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Cross, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 21-4.
Beaufort Academy will look to defend their home court on Monday against Thomas Heyward Academy at 6:30 p.m. As for Cross, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hilton Head Prep at 6:00 p.m. on February 8th. Hopefully Cross focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Wednesday.
