Softball Game Preview: Cottonwood Colts vs. Granger Lancers

The Cottonwood Colts will head out on the road to face off against the Granger Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Cottonwood and six for Granger.

Cottonwood came up short against Hillcrest on Friday, falling 20-2. That's two games in a row now that the Colts have lost by exactly 18 runs.

Tialer Mounts was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Breeya Busey was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Granger's offense. They lost 10-0 to West Jordan on Thursday.

Granger's loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Cottonwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.

Granger's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Cottonwood has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Granger, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Cottonwood keep running through batters, or will the Lancers buck the trend?

Cottonwood suffered a grim 20-3 defeat to Granger when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Colts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
