Baseball Game Preview: Isle of Wight Academy Chargers vs. Grace Christian School Kings

The Isle of Wight Academy Chargers will face off against the Grace Christian School Kings at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Grace Christian School took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Isle of Wight Academy, who comes in off a win.

Last Monday, Isle of Wight Academy earned a 4-1 victory over Broadwater Academy.

Logan Springle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Isle of Wight Academy's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Wyatt King, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Jake Wells also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Grace Christian School fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Fredericksburg Christian on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 11-7 to the Eagles. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Kings, who until this match were averaging 3.78 runs allowed.

Mason Minor and Andrew Whittington stepped up to the plate in a big way. Minor scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Whittington scored a run while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Grace Christian School's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-3. As for Isle of Wight Academy, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Isle of Wight Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Grace Christian School struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went Isle of Wight Academy's way against Grace Christian School in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Isle of Wight Academy made off with a 9-2 victory.
