Softball Recap: Lovejoy Leopards vs. Corsicana Tigers
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lovejoy had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They beat the Corsicana Tigers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-0. Considering Lovejoy has won 14 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Izzy Guarriello made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Guarriello has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive pitching appearances. Guarriello was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Skylar Rucker, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kamryn Messick, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
The victory (which was Lovejoy's 13th in a row) raised their record to 20-10-1. As for Corsicana, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-23 record this season.
