Baseball Recap: Wellington Finds Playoff Glory Versus Park Vista

It's playoff time, and Wellington had no trouble coming through when it counted. They never let the Park Vista Cobras get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory on Wednesday. Surprisingly, this marked the Wolverines' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Jhon Abreu made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Thomas Lograsso, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Wellington is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Park Vista, with the loss, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 20-5.

Wellington will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cobras: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
