Softball Recap: Normal University Pioneers vs. Normal Community Ironmen

Normal University had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 10-15 to make it five. They fell 6-2 to the Normal Community Ironmen. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Ironmen apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Normal Community, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

For Normal Community's part, Ava Prevo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. Prevo has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bailey Engel, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Wilde, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.
