Baseball Recap: Grainger Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Grainger ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past the Volunteer Falcons 2-1. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 7-6 victory back in March.

Garrett Keiter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over eight innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Grainger's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't). Keiter was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Keiter wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Wallace, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Grainger's record now sits at 7-9. As for Volunteer, their loss was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-17.

Looking ahead, Grainger will take on Gibbs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Volunteer, they will venture away from home to take on West Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
