Berwick is a perfect 6-0 against Hanover Area since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Hawkeyes at 4:45 p.m. Berwick is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Berwick had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Lake-Lehman put an end to it on Monday. The Bulldogs lost 8-2 to the Knights. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.
Berwick saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Brown, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hanover Area). Everything went their way against MMI Preparatory School on Monday as they made off with a 17-8 win.
Caitlin Vigorito made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.9 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Madison Ponko was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and two stolen bases. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in runs (three). Ava Malcarne was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four runs and one stolen base.
Berwick's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Hanover Area, their victory bumped their record up to 4-8.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Berwick hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .387. However, it's not like Hanover Area struggles in that department as they've averaged .427. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Berwick was able to grind out a solid win over Hanover Area in their previous matchup on April 1st, winning 15-11. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Hawkeyes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
