Baseball Game Preview: Mildred Eagles vs. Avalon Eagles

Mildred will face off against Avalon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mildred's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Avalon's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Mildred is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Cayuga just ended the team's four-game winning streak last Monday. They fell 6-2 to the Wildcats. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

Meanwhile, Avalon beat Non Varsity Opponent 12-7 on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Rayden Mendez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Avalon is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-4 otherwise. Mendez was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on John De La Garza, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Novak, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

The victory got Avalon back to even at 4-4. As for Mildred, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.
