Basketball Game Preview: Perquimans Pirates vs. Gates County Red Barons

Perquimans is on a seven-game streak of home losses, Gates County a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Monday. The Perquimans Pirates will welcome the Gates County Red Barons at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with ten defeats in a row, Perquimans turned things around against North East Carolina Prep on Friday. They came out on top against the Husky by a score of 68-57.

Nyquan Riddick continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 22 points along with eight steals and six boards. Xavier Spellman was another key player, earning 18 points and three steals.

Perquimans smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Gates County was able to grind out a solid win over Bertie on Friday, taking the game 45-34.

Gates County is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Perquimans, their victory ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-16.
