Volleyball Recap: River Islands Riptide vs. Lathrop Spartans

After flying high against Tokay last Thursday, River Islands came back down to earth. The Riptide took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lathrop Spartans on Monday.

The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 17-25, 25-20, 25-16.

Despite the defeat, River Islands saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Taray Irving had 13 digs and two aces. Irving is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 11 or more in each of the last four games he's played. Eric Irving also deserves some recognition as he served his first ace of the season.

Lathrop was led to victory by Mario Luna and Marc Llorin. Luna had four aces and three digs, while Llorin had six kills. That's the most kills Llorin has posted since back in May of 2024.
