Baseball Recap: Port Washington Sets Scoring Season-High Against Augustine Prep

It's playoff time, and Port Washington had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 24-1 margin over the Augustine Prep Lions on Thursday. The Pirates' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Sam Hoeft was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Hoeft was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Port Washington got a massive performance out of Kyle Uselding, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave Uselding a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Bergin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and three runs.

Port Washington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Port Washington is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-15 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Augustine Prep, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11-1.

Looking ahead, Port Washington will take on Kettle Moraine Lutheran on Tuesday. The Chargers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Augustine Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
