Baseball Game Preview: Westover Wolverines vs. Terry Sanford Bulldogs

Westover hasn't had much luck against Terry Sanford recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wolverines will welcome the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Westover has given up an average of 15.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Westover is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 11th straight game on Friday. They came up short against Overhills, falling 17-1.

Meanwhile, Terry Sanford came tearing into Friday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 10-0 shutout. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Jack Reaves looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Benny Whiteaker, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Gibson Bray, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Terry Sanford's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Westover, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11.

Westover might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Terry Sanford when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
