Softball Recap: Whitney Comes Up Short

Whitney had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-2 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Rogers Eagles by a score of 17-15. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Kenna Claridy made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Laura Coleman, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

As for Rogers, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since February 28, 2025.

On Rogers' side, the team relied heavily on Ariela Gutierrez, who fired off three triples, four runs, and two stolen bases while going 4-for-5. Those two stolen bases gave Gutierrez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenzie Ulicnik, who went 2-for-5 with five RBI and three runs.

Looking ahead, Whitney will be taking part in a tournament against Benbrook at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Rogers, they will take on Belton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
