Baseball Game Preview: Niles West Wolves vs. Maine West Warriors

Niles West is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Monday. They will look to defend their home field against the Maine West Warriors at 4:45 p.m. Maine West took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Niles West, who comes in off a win.

Niles West is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Taft get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Saturday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wolves considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Scott Stewart looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Andrew Lim, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eli Ordower, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Niles West hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Taft struck out 11 times.

Meanwhile, Maine West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Warren Township.

Julian Delao made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Perish Smith was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Maine West's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Niles West, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-9 record.

Niles West couldn't quite get it done against Maine West in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 as they fell 8-4. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
