Baseball Game Preview: Moore Mustangs vs. Jeffersontown Chargers

The Moore Mustangs will head out to square off against the Jeffersontown Chargers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Moore took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Doss 14-2. That looming 14-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Mustangs yet this season.

Luisdel Benites made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowing only two earned runs while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Benites was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Isaac Northern was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Katel Dutan, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Moore always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jeffersontown). They walked away with an 11-8 win over Brown on Thursday.

Moore pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Jeffersontown, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Everything went Moore's way against Jeffersontown in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Moore made off with a 14-7 win. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
