Softball Recap: Calhoun Wins Going Away Against Jersey

Calhoun barely beat Jersey the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Warriors blew past the Panthers 7-1 on Tuesday. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.

Audrey Gilman made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lilly Pelletier, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since April 7th.

The victory made it two in a row for Calhoun and bumps their season record up to 14-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Jersey, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10-1 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calhoun will challenge Greenfield/Northwestern at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Jersey, they will face off against Civic Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
