Basketball Recap: Gateway's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Gateway came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the South Fort Myers Wolfpack 50-17. The team accrued 39 points in the first half and coasted on those for the victory.

V'Davrielle Johnson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 21 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Gateway's points. Another player making a difference was Kenyah Moss, who posted nine points.

Ja'Meria Church and Za'Niyah Daniels certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Church put up three points in addition to nine boards and three steals, while Daniels scored six points. Church has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe'Naisha Mode, who earned four points.

Gateway is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.4 points per game. As for South Fort Myers, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season.

Gateway didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-46 win against Aubrey Rogers on the 30th. South Fort Myers has also already played their next contest (against Community School of Naples), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
