Baseball Game Preview: Newport Greyhounds vs. Rose Bud Ramblers

Newport is 1-7 against Rose Bud since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Greyhounds will take on the Ramblers at 5:00 p.m. The last three games Newport has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Tuesday, Newport had just enough and edged out Rivercrest 4-3.

Meanwhile, Rose Bud had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-1 win over the Eagles.

Nick Golla was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

Golla wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caden Calhoun, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Calhoun has posted since back in March. Blake Bradley was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Newport has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Rose Bud, they pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Newport suffered a grim 14-7 defeat to Rose Bud when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Greyhounds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
