Recap: Statesboro Blue Devils vs. Wayne County Yellow Jackets
The Statesboro Blue Devils came tearing into Friday's matchup with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Wayne County 51-27. Statesboro might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven games by 24 points or more this season.
Alyssa Staten was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 15 points, 21 rebounds, and ten blocks. The match was her third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reya Johnson, who scored 15 points along with six assists.
Statesboro's win bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Wayne County, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Statesboro is on the road again on Friday and play against Coffee at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. As for Wayne County, they will challenge Burke County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Burke County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 381st, while Wayne County is ranked 141st).
