Basketball Recap: Colonial Falls Short of Apopka in the Playoffs

Colonial and Apopka squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Colonial had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Apopka Blue Darters by a score of 57-54. While losing is never fun, the Grenadiers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 191st, while the Blue Darters are ranked 41st).

When it comes to explaining why Colonial lost, don't look at Silas Williams. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 40.7% of Colonial's points, marking the third time in a row Williams has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was DeAngelo Wilson, who went 5-for-8 on his way to 10 points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Colonial was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Apopka only racked up four assists.

Apopka was led to victory by Jude Angervil and Jermichael Johnson. Angervil went 6-for-11 en route to 16 points and five rebounds, while Johnson earned 16 points. Jahi Bowden was another key player, putting up nine points and six boards.

Colonial has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 13-13 record this season. As for Apopka, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.

Colonial does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Apopka, they will face off against Winter Park at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Apopka is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55 points per game this season.
