Basketball Recap: Zihanna Lightfoot's Big Game Can't Quite Lead North Pitt over West Craven

After flying high against Washington last Friday, North Pitt came back down to earth. The contest between the North Pitt Panthers and the West Craven Eagles didn't end well, with the North Pitt Panthers falling 44-30. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 296th, while the Eagles are ranked 100th).

North Pitt's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zihanna Lightfoot, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. Lightfoot has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more rebounds the last 12 times she's played.

West Craven's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Felisha Wilson led the charge by putting up 16 points in addition to eight boards and four blocks. Shalawn Yates was another key player, earning 15 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.

North Pitt's loss dropped their record down to 10-13. As for West Craven, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.

North Pitt didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-32 defeat against Farmville Central on the 14th. As for West Craven, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 62-48 win against SouthWest Edgecombe on the 14th.
