Preview: Mabank Panthers vs. Kaufman Lions
Mabank has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Kaufman Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mabank comes in on a streak of failing to score more than ten points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Mabank started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Sulphur Springs. The match between both teams wasn't particularly close, with the Panthers falling 28-10. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 756th, while Sulphur Springs is ranked 327th).
Meanwhile, Kaufman had to suffer through a rough 48-20 loss at the hands of Anna. Kaufman has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kaufman's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Aljour Miles ii, who picked up 239 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and Ty Burleson who threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns.
Mabank's loss was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 6.17 points per game. Kaufman has traveled a rocky road this season, as they've lost six of their first seven contests, which leaves them at a 1-6 record this season.
Mabank might still be hurting after the 31-7 defeat they got from Kaufman when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Mabank, Braxton Garmon (who rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
